Frequently Asked Questions

Can everyone be hypnotized?

The truth is that everyone can be hypnotized. As a matter of fact, each one of us is using hypnosis in some form every single day of our lives either consciously or unconsciously. We are experiencing some form of a trance-like hypnotic state each time we engage our imagination, each time we engage our emotions, each time our attention is focused upon our subjective experience.

It is estimated that we spend between 50 and 80% of our waking hours in our unconscious mind. It is a common and completely natural state of mind that we have all experienced countless times before, we just didn't call it hypnosis.

Watch people entering into a swimming pool. We would see a wide variety of methods. Some would dive in and some would head down the steps into the pool, while others would test the waters gently with their foot. The same is true with a group of people entering hypnosis. Some will dive right in and enjoy a deeper quality of relaxation than they have ever had before in their entire lives and they will love it. Others will just gently test the shallow waters.

The people that are easiest to hypnotize are those who have great imagination and are able to maintain the focus on the desired objective.

Will a hypnotist have complete power over you when you are hypnotized?

Hypnosis can be done in much more subtle ways than someone telling you to "take a deep breath and close your eyes now ... and hold onto every word I say ...." Anyone who is skilled with using language, capturing your imagination or is perceived by you as having an authority in a given context is playing the role of a hypnotist in your life. You could say that the first hypnotists we experienced in our lives were our own parents - even if they did the whole act of hypnotizing unknowingly.

It is always up to you, whether you are having a session with a hypnotist, listening to hypnosis recording or receiving information through some other media - from a doctor, a lawyer, a salesman, an ad in a paper, watching news, reading books or newspapers - whether you want to accept or reject the ideas and statements offered. For that reason we say that "all hypnosis is ultimately self-hypnosis" and that you are always in control.

A skilled hypnotist can help you a great deal simply due to experience and knowledge of a variety of helpful techniques, but ultimately all the power is right in your mind and it is only a matter of learning to access it and practicing to develop, or rather unfold it so that you can accomplish anything you desire.

Will I hear and remember everything under hypnosis?

A lot of people believe that when they are hypnotized they will not be aware of anything that is happening around them. Yet, if you lost all connection with the hypnotist, how could you follow the instructions?

Hypnosis has absolutely nothing to do with being asleep or unconscious in any way. You hear everything, remember everything, and know exactly what's going on the entire time. You are always aware and in control.

Can Hypnosis hurt me?

In over two hundred years of recorded hypnosis history, there is no documented evidence of anyone being hurt with hypnosis. If anyone tried to give you suggestions against your morals, religious beliefs or anything you felt strongly about, you would instantly come out of the state of relaxation on your own.

What if I don't wake up?

The modern research shows that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis and it is a 100% consent state. If at any time you want to come out of the state, for any reason, you will instantly, naturally, open your eyes and become fully alert. No one can keep you in hypnosis against your will.

What is a hypnosis session like?

At the Bangalore Hypnosis Institute your hypnosis session will be an extremely pleasant experience consisting of four distinct phases.

  • The therapist will discuss with you your goal or problem and decide on the therapy that can most rapidly achieve the desired results
  • If you feel absolutely comfortable about going forward, the actual hypnosis session will begin. You will be guided into a deep state of physical and mental relaxation. You will feel very relaxed and mentally alert. You will be aware of everything going on around you.
  • If the underlining cause of your problem is not readily apparent it will be uncovered by your unconscious mind and eliminated. Then this powerful subconscious mind will be given suggestions you desire. These suggestions will enter your unconscious mind and become part of you. And you will emerge from hypnosis feeling better and more comfortable than you have been for a long time.
  • The final part of the session will be a brief discussion of the hypnosis session, making sure your desired change is felt within you.

How many sessions will it take?

Those who are highly motivated to achieve their goals do the best with one single session. The majority require only two or three sessions. More than three sessions typically occurs if you have to reach multiple goals.
